Celebration Community Church held its first worship service on September 10, 2006 after several months of preparing for a new work to begin in Dillsburg, PA. The Ballroom at Range End Golf Course was packed with 277 friends and visitors that day! That Ballroom became "home" for Celebration for two years.
God was moving and Celebration was growing! In early 2007, Wednesday night ministries began in homes and other locations throughout the community. The worship team and choir were meeting to rehearse. The Ballroom was filled to capacity every week.
Then something miraculous happened. Celebration Community Church and South Mountain Church became one.
Celebration Community Church had a Pastor, but no church building, and South Mountain Church had a church building, but no Pastor. Talks between the two congregations began and after much prayer, the two decided to begin working toward a union.
Our first joint worship service at South Mountain Church (our present location) happened in October 2008, and 246 people crowded into the small upstairs sanctuary to celebrate God's Goodness!
Services were quickly moved to the Family Life Center (at that time, a gymnasium) to better accommodate the combined congregation. On February 1, 2009, the two churches became one at a "marriage ceremony" that we will long remember. Ever since, we've seen each ministry continue to expand, grow and bear fruit.
By the end of the year, we were able to add a Youth Pastor and Children's Pastor, with both eventually becoming full-time positions. Celebration left its Home Missions Church status behind and became a fully sovereign church in the Assemblies of God. The first group of members was received in December 2009.
As more and more people came through the doors, it also became more difficult to find a seat on Sunday mornings! A second service was added on March 21, 2010. We reached outside our doors and into the online world in September 2012 when we launched Celebration Live, our weekly livestream broadcast of our 10:45 a.m. service. It continues to reach people both in the community and around the world each week.
As you can see, God gets ALL THE CREDIT for building this church! Man could not have accomplished such great things without the hand and favor of God!
It has always been the intention of Celebration to be an outward-focused church, with a presence that impacts this community. We're humbled to see the difference a congregation can make by sharing the Love of Jesus and simply lending a hand to those in need!
Whether it's through Connecting Point, which offers free lunch, boxes of food, clothes, haircuts, car repair and more or through our Livin' It Sundays where we do Community Projects in place of our Sunday morning service, we continue to look for more ways to reach others and to bring in the harvest.
For us, it's not about just hearing a sermon but living a sermon!
We are filled with passion and purpose for the years ahead. The best is yet to come!
